As if you need another reason to drink coffee... new research says the heavenly brew can "protect against diabetes, liver cancer, cirrhosis and Parkinson's disease." Time to go have another cup!

Actually, this is a perfect time to let you know about some new products we have in stock.

Ka'anapali Moka Peaberry is back! It's indisputably the best coffee produced on Maui this year. But we only have a limited supply, so if you've been waiting for Peaberry's return, make sure to order right away!

And our regular Ka'anapali Moka now comes in three bean sizes: Our traditional size 11, the deluxe size 14 and our personal favorite, size 16.

If you don't know how screen sizes work, here's a quick primer. Coffee is classified based upon the size of the holes in a screen sorting system. The screen holes are based on sixty-fourths of an inch, so a number 11 is 11/64, and a number 16 is 16/64. The range runs from about 10 to 22.

Classification helps ensure the beans roasted together are a uniform size, to allow for even roasting. But more importantly for coffee connoisseurs, larger beans generally have a better taste profile.

(That said, it's important to note that bean size is only one of many factors that determines high quality coffee. It's also difficult to compare bean sizes across varieties. So for example, a size 11 Ka'anapali Moka bean is superior to a size 17 Kenyan.)

In any case, we now offer four choices and four ways for you to partake of the wonderful chocolaty taste of Ka'anapali Moka. Enjoy!

In one of our recent newsletters, we mentioned our supply of the very special 2009 crop of Ka'anapali Moka.

It's been a big seller for us -- but we still have some left, and we don't want you to miss out.

So what makes the 2009 Ka'anapali Moka so special? In years past, Moka's tiny, split-pea-like beans fascinated coffee aficionados, as did its Afro-Arabian fruit-and-chocolate cup character.

But in the last six years, Ka'anapali Coffee Farms and the University of Hawaii have tried to develop a strain of Moka with a larger bean, while preserving and enhancing the aroma and flavor profiles of the original Moka coffee. 2009 marks the first year of this success story.

Coffee connoisseurs love this bean, which is grown right here on Maui. Here's one review:

"Nose: Lots of chocolate and pipe tobacco. Smoke shows up strongly in the French press. A nice nutty, hazelnut flavor as well. Finish: It is a medium length finish that ends on chocolate in the vacuum pot and drip. In the French press, it ends on a smoky, nutty note."

We're selling our Ka'anapali Moka at the great price of $29.95 per pound, but our supply is limited. So make sure to order today and then enjoy one of the finest Hawaiian coffees.

But not all Kona coffees are created equal. To make sure you're getting the best quality Kona, check out our list of things to look for before you buy. And of course, know that when you purchase from The Coffee Store, we don't cut corners with our Kona.
